Growing the Great Lakes Bay Region Specialty Crops Market and Mid-MI Knowledge Network

Specialty Crop market

The Great Lakes Bay Region Specialty Crop Market and Knowledge Network project helps mid-Michigan specialty crop growers gain entry to and build regional partnerships with institutional purchasers increasing community access to healthy, locally grown foods. Through USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant funding (2015-2017), this project delivered 1) Saginaw Co. specialty crop producers general educational workshops in the areas of food safety, marketing, business development and financial literacy; 2) An intermediate series of workshops tailored to currently “hubbing” specialty crop producers within the Ingham/Tri-County area; 3) Knowledge Network development of mid-Michigan specialty crop growers, and 4) Institutional purchasing data collection and grower relationship development. This information will be compiled as a toolkit for stakeholder reference.
